Biography

If you've been to the Florida panhandle, then I'm from Milton. If you haven't, then let's just say I'm from Pensacola. I decided in fourth grade that I was going to be an aerospace engineer when I grew up. I kept at it until I was 21, when I suddenly realized that even though I wasn't having trouble with the material, I just didn't like what I was doing and that if I didn't stop I would have to wait until I retired--call it an early mid-life crisis without the fancy sports car. I switched somewhat drastically and earned an English B.A. with a mathematics minor from UF in 2007 (incidentally, the same year as the Gators double championship!). I'm currently working on my M.A. in Composition and Rhetoric here at UCF and will continue work on a PhD, the topic of which is TBD. Eventually I'd like to move back home and teach community college English.

Research

I'm currently trying to focus on the rhetoric of popular science writing. I think it's fascinating to see how the classical rhetorical forms are used and applied in modern science and technical writing, both for professionals and for the general public. I would also like to do more research into the history of the English language, but I'm still working on narrowing that field a bit.
