Special Interests

I am an absolute nut for just about anything outdoors (camping, fishing, hiking, etc.). I love reading, but I prefer nonfiction to fiction any day of the week. Subjects in all genres fascinate me, and my taste in music is just as eclectic. Blessed (or cursed) with a curiosity that rivals a two-year-old child’s, I have two favorite words: “how” and “why.” Perhaps because of this characteristic, I have a wide variety of interests.

Nikki on Writing

There are worse things in life than writing. For some, the word “writing” conjures up feelings of anxiety and dread much like the words “root canal” or “comprehensive exam.” Learning to write is simply a matter of finding the right metaphor. For the artist, writing may be a cathartic expression of creation similar to colorful masterpieces executed on blank canvases. For the architect, a completed paper stands as a magnificent structure whose reality began with a simple blue print. However, the best advice I have ever been given is to start early. If you work better under pressure, set an early due date. No one ever churns out a flawless paper in one sitting.
