The UWC's Graduate Resources and Policies

The University Writing Center (UWC) offers graduate students peer consultations, which are an opportunity to discuss your writing with one of our graduate consultants and have another pair of eyes review your work. Students in all disciplines and programs will benefit from a writing consultation.

Our peer consultants are trained to offer helpful advice and feedback on coursework, conference proposals, term papers, theses, journal articles and professional writing. We also help you plan and revise theses and dissertations. We can help at any stage of the writing process, including: planning, outlining chapters/papers, "chunking" research into chapters, documenting sourceswork in APA, MLA, IEEE, Chicago, or other documentation styles (specific to your field of study) and revising. We can also assist writers in setting a realistic timeline for completion of work.

We recommend making appointments early. A series of consultations can be made, allowing you to progress with confidence toward completion of your project. We recommend making 30 minute appointments for documents or 7 pages or less and making 60 minute appointments for documents ranging from 8-15 pages. We ask that students not make 2 consecutive hour long appointments; after 60 minutes, the consultation runs into a point of diminishing returns.

The UWC offers phone and online consultations for UCF graduate thesis and dissertation writers. Other graduate and honors writers are welcome on a space available basis.

You can schedule phone or online consultations to discuss a variety of issues related to your writing, at any stage of the writing process—from outlining to preparing the final draft. It is most helpful, though, if you come to the consultation with questions or concerns about your work. This will allow for most effective use of your time.
