What Happens at the UWC?

Students come to the UWC for individualized 30-minute or 60-minute meetings with a trained writing consultant. (Small group appointments are also available). These meetings can take place at any stage in the writing process, from brainstorming to final editing. Talking about writing and working with drafts in progress are considered the most useful UWC activities, though writers can also work with other materials such as handouts on various facets of the writing process, CLAST preparation materials, and computers.

Students can make an appointment or drop in any time we’re open; they should bring details about the assignment, along with notes and any drafts.  Global issues (purpose, thesis, organization, support, etc.) will be addressed first during a consultation.
The UWC also holds workshops on special writing topics and assists faculty with assigning and evaluating writing.
